The HR story – A peek into the heart of HR at Brisa

Human Resources professionals in every organisation are entrusted with perhaps the most crucial role, that of looking after the well-being of the company’s human capital. They are the bridge between the individual and the collective and the purpose. HR at Brisa lets us into their world.

Human resources involves two basic areas in the business world. One is focusing on the needs and goals of the company and the other is dealing with the needs and goals of the employees. And in fulfilling both the roles, unfortunately, we often find ourselves on the outside fringes of the employees, despite our best intentions. This is partially due to the pressure on us to make sure that metrics do not suffer.

Some of us get into this career because we genuinely care about people and want to make the workplace a better experience. Though our work is driven by corporate goals, we also have a sense of purpose and a love for what we do. And every day, like HR professionals all over the world, we make decisions on behalf of the company and deal with difficult issues that sometimes leave us seeking deep into our souls.

Some of our regular initiatives are –

  • Celebration of festivals – This is a highlight at Brisa as we encourage the celebration of every festival and occasion, making sure there is always something to look forward to. While the pandemic has made celebrations virtual, we are devising ways to include the whole team and continue participating and celebrating together.
  • CSR Activities – Our CSR activities are also employee oriented as every month we celebrate employee birthdays with children from an orphanage with a company sponsored cake and lunch.
  • Employee Rewards & Recognition – We believe in hard work being recognised and appreciated. We welcome new employees and celebrate work anniversaries of internal employees on a quarterly basis by gifting a cash voucher along with a certificate.
  • Hire women after a break – Brisa has never been influenced by age, gender, caste or creed in their hiring policy. We consciously provide support to women who play multiple roles in their professional and personal life. For women who have been on a break, we have a unique program to prepare them to get back to the workforce. We welcome them into the company with equal opportunity and benefits.
  • Employee Engagement –We try to be aware of any problems that employees could be facing and always reach out to help them. We have made it our business to make personal calls to every employee, sort out their issues and keep them happy.
  • Skill Upgradation Programs - We regularly conduct Learning and Development programmes for employees to learn new skills and upgrade existing ones. We focus seriously on talent development with exceptional investment in employee growth, and give employees the opportunity and support to reach where they aspire to be.

The last year has been one of challenges as the pandemic started affecting people financially, mentally and psychologically. Covid has drastically reshaped the economy and the labour force and we had to reinvent ourselves to take on new roles and responsibilities. Since its rapid spread around the globe, we have experienced colossal shifts in how we work, where we work, and the technologies we use to stay connected.

We had a huge corporate family to look after and keep the morale up. The demands of work increased and it all needed to be done from home. It was important to stay mentally healthy to be physically healthy. While work helped to keep the mind busy, it was natural for employees to be exhausted with the helpless situation outside.

The Brisa culture of positivity, vibrancy and an attitude towards never giving up, helped greatly in this situation. We introduced lockdown challenge activities to make work from home exciting. Fun activities were added, such as Brisa Master Chef, Brisa’s Got Talent, Fit Family Challenge.

Along with mental well-being, it is important for people to take the necessary precautions and know exactly what to do. We invited employees to attend sessions with health experts to gain tips about staying healthy and fit during Covid times. Our employees’ health and well-being remain paramount at Brisa.
